It is important in belly dance to know the moves so that you can appear graceful on the dance floor. Once you learn the basic dance moves, the more advanced moves are simply a combination of the basic moves layered together.
If you have never belly danced before, you will want to start with the basic moves page and work with these moves until you are comfortable doing them both standing still and “traveling” (this means moving). As time goes on, we will add more and more basic moves to our page.
Once you are comfortable with the basic moves, both standing still and traveling, you are ready to layer them into the more complex advanced moves. For instance, if you are comfortable doing a grape vine traveling step, try it with a shimmy. This adds a whole new dimension to the move.
